Alicante: A sunny city full of charm and tradition

Alicante is a beautiful city on the Spanish east coast with around 335,000 inhabitants. It is a popular holiday destination with its own airport, which makes it easily accessible. The city is known for its beautiful beaches, charming harbour and great golf courses, dozens of which have sea views. Alicante is located at the foot of the impressive Santa Barbara castle , which proudly towers above the city on the Benacantil mountain . From the top you have a breathtaking view of the city, the coast and the surrounding nature.

One of the nicest places in Alicante is the Explanada de España , an atmospheric boulevard directly opposite the harbour. Here you can stroll along the numerous shops, enjoy a drink on a sunny terrace or eat in one of the cosy restaurants. In the harbour itself you will find more nice bars and eateries. A must for culture lovers is the Provincial Archaeological Museum (MARQ) , where you can learn everything about the rich history of the region.

Alicante is also a city of traditions and celebrations. One of the biggest and most enjoyable celebrations is Noche de San Juan on June 24th. During this festival, large bonfires are lit and colorful dolls, which have been displayed in the city for days, are ritually burned. This creates a spectacular and magical atmosphere that is enjoyed by both locals and tourists.

Besides the city itself, Alicante also has a lot of beautiful nature to offer. A must is the Carrascal de la Font Roja nature park, which is located between the cities of Alcoi and Ibi. Here you can enjoy walking in a green mountain landscape. Other beautiful nature reserves in the region are the lagoons of Mata and Torrevieja , the impressive rock massif Penyal d'Ifac , and the salt flats of Santa Pola . If you go a little further inland, you will come to the city of Elche , famous for its extensive palm groves, which are even on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
